Elected Vice-Chairman of the Bureau of the11th session of the Statistical Commission of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation held on 18 and 19 October 2022 in Ankara, Cameroon, through the National Institute of Statistics, is leading the work alongside Pakistan, Chairman, from the Asia Group, Qatar, another Vice-Chairman of the Bureau, representing OIC-Arab and Palestine, Permanent Vice-Chair.
For two days, the 57 delegations of the OIC member countries will discuss five themes that affect the future of the peoples of these nations. These include the review of the mechanism for the implementation and monitoring of the strategic vision of the OIC-STATCOM for 2030 and its 2021-2025 action programme; the project to transform data collection techniques for population and housing censuses in the context of COVID-19; the MEDSTAT V Programme of the European Union; monitoring SDG 9 indicators on industry, manufacturing and infrastructure, and research, scientific development and innovation.
Regarding the culmination of this work, namely the implementation of the ICO-STATCOM strategic vision for 2030 and its 2021-2025 action program, an opinion survey was conducted in March 2022 by the Statistical, Economic and Social Research and Training Center for Islamic Countries (SESRIC) among the member countries of the OIC, In accordance with Resolution No. 1 of the10th session of the said body. The objective of the survey was to collect the data needed to monitor and monitor the strategy based on the key performance indicators developed in the vision document. At the end of the data evaluation, it became apparent, depending on the various priority areas and the objectives assigned, that in terms of coordination, cooperation and collaboration in statistics, most of the National Statistical Offices had a National Statistical Council. The same is true of the field of modernization of National Statistical Systems and innovation. Several countries, including Cameroon, reported having statistical laws and regulatory frameworks aligned with the fundamental principles of official statistics. In general, most OIC members have high-performance National Statistical Systems whose actions must be supported in order to remain so.
In addition, within the framework of the North-South partnership, Eurostat has come to propose the5th phase of the Euro-Mediterranean Statistical Cooperation (MEDSTAT V) funding programme for the development of statistics. The main objective of the project is to promote data-driven decision-making by improving the availability and accessibility of statistical data.
The OIC-STACOM is the Statistical Commission of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC). The OIC was established in 1969 in the aftermath of the arson attack on the Al-Aqsa Mosque in Israel and aims to protect the interests of the Muslim people around the world.
