29th World Population Day: The INS in Bertoua

The testimony of Josiane, a 37-year-old woman and mother of seven, moved the audience during the celebration of this 29th World Population Day. Lacking financial means, but unable to control her fertility, she found herself the mother of several children in a short time, the spacing of births being, in some cases, less than a year. She was therefore knowingly promoting family planning, which, by her own admission, saved her life. It is under the theme of family planning as a human right that this day of celebration was placed. A theme that is not foreign to the corridors of the National Institute of Statistics where a large amount of documentation on demographic statistics is regularly produced.Among the publications are, prominently, those relating to the fourth Cameroon Household Survey (ECAM-4), the fifth survey on the health situation of women and children, better known through the Multiple Indicator Cluster Survey whose Anglo-Saxon acronym is “MICS-5”, the leaflets on the Fifth Demographic and Health Survey (ESDC-5), which was launched on July 2, 2018. These statistical publications are sources of information accessible to public administrations and institutions, the Government’s technical and financial partners, private sector operators, civil society and international organizations, in order to take better account of socio-demographic problems on the one hand, and to better target the development actions to be undertaken, on the other.The INS, which is UNFPA’s partner in the implementation of several projects, was present in Bertoua where it distinguished itself by its exhibition stand and by its participation in the civil march. During this ceremony, many donations of agricultural equipment were given to associations as part of the support of the public authorities for private initiatives.
