The ceremony took place on December 29, 2020 in Yaoundé in the presence of an impressive audience of guests.
It was 10:00 a.m. when the sirens announcing the arrival of the Prime Minister, Head of Government, sounded in the lake district on December 29, 2020. The reason for his presence at the INS esplanade was well known: to inaugurate the headquarters building of the National Institute of Statistics, the work of which was completed several months ago. No less than a dozen members of the government were present at this ceremony. Technical partners and company CEOs also responded favourably to the invitation. Opening the sequence of speeches, the Mayor of the City of Yaoundé welcomed this important work which embellishes the surroundings of the municipal lake of the capital. Taking the floor in turn, the Director General presented the main characteristics of the work. It is a nine-storey building including two basements and seven floors, with modern amenities: elevators, gym, restaurant, access ramp for people with reduced mobility, smoke extraction system, fire safety, air conditioning system, etc. The speech of the Minister of Economy, Planning and Regional Development, committed the staff of the INS to take care of this equipment which is likely to improve the performance of statistics. The Prime Minister, Head of Government congratulated the project team of this work, stressing that it is an entirely Cameroonian expertise whose work was fully financed by the public investment budget. The dance groups of the cultural tunes Fang-beti and Sawa came to embellish this very colorful ceremony. The cutting of the symbolic ribbon and the unveiling of the commemorative plaque officially marked the inauguration of this structure. This is a new page in the history of the National Institute of Statistics.
