This is the theme that brought together the heads of the Central and Decentralised services of the INS from 23 to 24 January 2020 at the Multipurpose Sports Palace in Yaoundé.

On January 23 and 24, 2020, the Yaoundé Multipurpose Sports Palace welcomed the heads of the Central and Decentralised services of the National Institute of Statistics, as part of the traditional annual meeting. The event chaired by the Director General of the INS brought together about a hundred managers, including the Heads of Structures and their collaborators, up to the rank of head of department. This was an ideal opportunity to examine the participation of the National Statistical System in the process of implementing decentralization, initiated by Cameroon.

The great innovation of this year was the participation of the Ministry of Decentralization and Local Development, whose representative, Mr. TIENTCHEU, made a presentation to edify the audience on the subtleties of the law on the code of decentralized local authorities. Other decentralization actors such as FEICOM and the Yaoundé City Hall 3 took part in the work.

According to the Director General, the main theme which is “Statistics, decentralization and local development: Challenges and perspectives” is “
a choice that is part of the commitment of the INS to strengthen its capacities to support the public authorities in this decentralization process”.

The work organized in plenary sessions focused on five sub-themes. These presentations were followed by 15 to 20 minute exchanges with the participants. The discussions that took place led to recommendations relating to the
“the improvement of current activities within the INS by accelerating the implementation of the decentralization process”;
and on the other hand to
“the involvement and better capacity building of actors who can intervene in the chain of implementation of the said decentralization at the national level”.
In addition, it was also a question of
ensuring the registration in the SNDS3 of statistical activities whose implementation will make it possible to monitor the implementation of decentralization, and to produce the municipal statistical yearbook
. Also, the Institute is called upon to support the CTDs in the development of data collection tools.
