The fifth Multiple Indicator Cluster Survey (MICS 5) will provide a minimum list of about 20 indicators of the MDGs and other strategic health indicators in an efficient manner.
It has three main objectives, namely:
- (i) to produce data and indicators to assess Cameroon’s progress towards achieving the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) by 2015,
- (ii) to collect information to update and enrich knowledge on the situation of women and children, on certain characteristics of households and their population,
- (iii) produce evidence to support advocacy for the consideration of the fundamental rights of children and women as stipulated through international commitments (Convention on the Rights of the Child, CEDAW, etc.) and national objectives, particularly those recorded in the DSCE and the Health Sector Strategy.
The main expected outcomes of MICS-5 are:
- (i) A survey report presenting and analysing data and indicators in the field of population health, the situation of women and children in 2014, and to be used to feed the National Report on the progress made by Cameroon towards achieving the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) by 2015 as well as the World Report produced by the United Nations,
- (ii) Leaflets and thematic reports based on up-to-date data to produce evidence to support advocacy for the consideration of the human rights of children and women in Cameroon
The survey is based on a representative sample of approximately 11,000 randomly selected households in 477 survey areas or clusters of 21 to 24 households to be interviewed per survey area. These survey areas are part of the 580 clusters of the Demographic and Health and Multiple Indicator Survey (DHS-MICS) conducted in 2011.
The stratification is designed to be representative by place of residence (urban-rural), and for certain indicators, to have a representativeness of the 12 fields of study corresponding to the 10 administrative regions and the cities of Yaoundé and Douala.
