[rank_math_breadcrumb]

In May 2018, the general price level increased in Yaoundé by 0.5%, after 0.8% in April 2018. This increase is largely due to the increase in food prices (0.7% after 2.8% last month). To this should be added the rebound in the prices of miscellaneous goods and services (0.8% after being stable in the previous month), restaurant and hotel services (0.7% after 0.1% in the previous month), health (0.6% after 0.3% in the previous month), leisure and culture (0.4% after stability in the previous month) as well as those of alcoholic beverages and tobacco (0.3% after stability in the previous month). In addition, the prices of clothing and footwear rose by 0.3% and those of furniture, household items and routine household maintenance increased by 0.3%.
The monthly increase in food prices is mainly due to the increase in the prices of milk, cheese and eggs (5.3% after 3.7% the previous month); sugar, jam, honey, chocolate and confectionery (1.9% after -0.2% in the previous month); oils and fats (1.8% after stability in the previous month); vegetables (1.6% after 3.8% the previous month); fish and seafood (1.1% after 2.5% the previous month); and bread and cereals (0.3% after 6.7% the previous month). On the other hand, meat prices continued to fall (-3.6% after -1.1% the previous month). Fruit prices fell by 2.3%, after a 7.4% surge in April 2018.
