At an average of 2.5% over the last twelve months, inflation has remained contained below the CEMAC standard of 3%.
Compared to the 2nd quarter, consumer prices rose in the 3rd quarter of 2020 by 0.6%. At an average of 2.5% over the last twelve months, inflation, although still persistent, has remained contained below the standard set at 3% by the Economic and Monetary Commission of Central Africa (CEMAC). On the spatial front, inflationary pressures have increased in Bertoua, Maroua, Garoua, Ngaoundéré and Buea. On the other hand, although still present, they have eased in Bamenda, Ebolowa, and have remained in Bafoussam.
In perspective and under the assumption of (i) the continuation of measures to combat the high cost of living, (ii) the uninterrupted supply of consumer goods to the markets, (iii) the economic recovery, (iv) and the absence of a new wave of Covid-19 contamination and any other major shock, the inflation rate could be below 2.8% in 2020.
