Department of Business Statistics

Placed under the authority of a Head of Department, the Department of Business Statistics is responsible for:

  • carrying out or participating in the carrying out of censuses and surveys relating to economic activities;
  • monitoring the demography of companies, in particular through the development of the register of companies and establishments;
  • supervising the collection of statistical and tax declarations in conjunction with the Directorate General of Taxes;
  • the establishment and management of the central company balance sheets;
  • the preparation of the economic and financial study of companies;
  • the training and retraining of professionals and other specialists in accounting;
  • the resolution of conflicts with regard to the application of the chart of accounts;
  • the production of short-term indicators concerning the economic units of the market;
  • the elaboration of economic activity indices;
  • the production of the annual business survey report;
  • the development of structural indicators on the environment, innovation, development, performance and corporate governance;
  • the compilation of statistics on the labour force of economic units in the labour market on the one hand, and outside the labour market on the other;
  • monitoring the implementation of international standards for the compilation of statistics on economic activities;
  • the implementation of alternative methodologies for the identification and survey of corporations, quasi-corporations and unincorporated family businesses in the market, in collaboration with the administrations and institutions concerned;
  • the compilation of sectoral statistics in its field of competence.

It includes:

  • the Permanent Secretariat of the Chart of Accounts;
  • the Productive Sectors Statistics Division
