The National Statistical Council
The National Statistics Council (CNS) is an advisory body to the government responsible for helping to coordinate and control statistical activity in Cameroon. The CNS is created under the Ministry of Economic Affairs, Planning and Regional Planning. The CNS is called upon to assist in all the different phases of the statistical production of data (design, collection, exploitation, processing, analysis of data, publication and dissemination of results).
Missions:
The CNS intervenes to:
- Strengthen consultation between producers, users of statistical information and those subject to statistical surveys;
- To examine and propose to the Government the main orientations in the field of statistics as well as the draft plans and programmes for the medium and long term development of statistics;
- To ensure the annual and multi-year programming of statistical operations, surveys and economic and socio-demographic censuses initiated by the public authorities;
- To give its opinion on draft laws or regulations on statistical activity;
- Ensuring the harmonization and use of statistical standards;
- To promote the regular updating and use for national statistical purposes of the files of all public and parapublic administrations and bodies;
- To provide advice on the methodologies used in the compilation of official statistical indicators and economic and social classifications;
- Ensure the integration of the computer tool in the exploitation of the results of censuses and statistical surveys;
- To propose in general strategies for the publication and dissemination of the results of censuses and statistical surveys and, in particular, to express its opinion on the content of economic and social data banks and on the modalities of access to these banks by users
