Household final consumer prices increased by 0.8% in the first half of 2018. This increase was 0.5% a year ago and 1.3% in the first half of 2016. On average over the last twelve months, the increase is 0.8%, after 0.5% in 2017 and 1.6% in 2016.
The price dynamics over the last twelve months are largely the result of the surge in the prices of food products (0.9%), miscellaneous goods and services (1.6%), alcoholic beverages, tobacco and narcotics (1.2%), clothing and footwear (1.0%) and education (1.0%).
The increase in the prices of miscellaneous goods and services is mainly the result of the increase in the price of the municipal stamp. Indeed, the finance law for the 2017 financial year raised the rates of the municipal stamp duty from 200 FCFA in 2016 to 600 FCFA in 2017, and it has increased to 500 FCFA since the beginning of 2018. The increase in food prices is mainly due to the increase in the price of fish and seafood (4.9%), as well as the rise in the prices of bread and cereals (4.2%).
