Under the theme “Investing in women: accelerating the pace”, the women of the National Institute of Statistics (INS) took an active part in the festivities of the39th edition of International Women’s Day (IWD), on Wednesday, March 8, 2024. From the activities organized internally to the parade at the Boulevard du 20 mai in Yaoundé, this celebration was marked by a spirit of conviviality.

The women of the INS caused a sensation during their visit to the Boulevard du 20 Mai, wearing their most beautiful smiles and elegant outfits. Accompanied by a notable support of the men of the Institute, they animated the parade to the rhythm of the brass bands of the National Institute of Youth and Sports (INJS), under the enthusiastic cheers of the public in general and the Director General of the INS in particular.

After the parade stage at the Boulevard du 20 Mai, the ladies of the INS and their male colleagues gathered in a warm atmosphere to share a succulent meal offered by the General Management. After the performance of the National Anthem and the Women’s Anthem, Mrs. Fernande EVINA, Gender Focal Point and President of the INS Women’s Association, took the opportunity to unfold the agenda of the activities of the Women’s Week at the INS, while expressing on behalf of the women, her gratitude to the General Management for the daily support to its female staff.

Taking the floor, the Director General of the INS, Mr. Joseph TEDOU congratulated the women and especially encouraged the men who accompanied them for their brilliant passage at the Boulevard du 20 mai. he expressed his commitment to promoting public awareness of gender issues and instructed the Gender Focal Point to produce a leaflet on the theme of IWD in the coming years.

In addition to the speeches that were delivered during the reception offered by the General Management, the ceremony of tributes paid by the INS Women’s Association to their elders who have retired, was a moving moment. Gifts were offered to seven retired ladies on behalf of ASFINS by its President Mrs. EVINA Fernande

The celebration was preceded by a series of activities including a sports walk organized by the Ministry for the Promotion of Women and the Family (MINPROFF) in the arteries of the city of Yaoundé; a round table on two themes, namely the causes and consequences of the lack of self-confidence, as well as the rights and duties of women in marriage; and a gastronomic day with a variety of traditional dishes. The many visitors did not hide their desires in front of the dishes of Koki, eru, sanga, taro with yellow sauce, mbongo, Ndjapche. All of this is enhanced by the sounds of the terroir.
