In May 2018, the general price level increased in Yaoundé by 0.5%, after 0.8% in April 2018. This increase is largely due to the increase in food prices (0.7% after 2.8% last month). In addition, the prices of clothing and footwear rose by 0.3% and those of furniture, household items and routine household maintenance increased by 0.3%.
The monthly increase in food prices is mainly due to the increase in the prices of milk, cheese and eggs (5.3% after 3.7% the previous month); sugar, jam, honey, chocolate and confectionery (1.9% after -0.2% in the previous month); oils and fats (1.8% after stability in the previous month); vegetables (1.6% after 3.8% the previous month); fish and seafood (1.1% after 2.5% the previous month); and bread and cereals (0.3% after 6.7% the previous month).
