WOMEN AND MEN, GIRLS AND BOYS IN CAMEROON

With the adoption of a new National Development Strategy for the period 2020-2030, the Government of Cameroon has made the commitment to pursue the implementation of the Beijing Platform, more than two decades after its adoption. Moreover, considerations regarding gender equality and women’s empowerment remain a constant priority for the government and are cross-cutting issues that must be reflected in development policies, programs and projects at both national and local levels. In a bid to provide development stakeholders with the information they need to monitor and assess the progress made in achieving gender equality and equity, the Ministry of Women’s Empowerment and the Family, in collaboration with the National Institute of Statistics and with the technical and financial support of the World Bank, has produced this booklet entitled ‘Women and Men, Girls and Boys in Cameroon’. This statistical overview is intended to highlight some of the ‘gendered’ data produced by various sector administrations and to ease the identification of any differences in the life situation of men and women in Cameroon.
