Note on the evolution of household final consumer prices in Douala in July 2021

Food prices continue to rise

In July 2021 and compared to last month, the Household Final Consumer Price Index (CPI) rose at a faster pace than last month (+0.5% after +0.3% in June), mainly due to the increase in food prices (+1.0% after +1.1% in June 2021) and the rebound in the price of “housing, water, gas, electricity and other fuels” (+1.4% after -0.1% in June 2021).

Compared to the same period in 2020, the general price level increased by 2.2% after +1.7% the previous month and +2.2% a year ago. This increase is mainly due to the acceleration of food prices (+4.8% after +3.7% last month) as well as “housing, water, gas, electricity and other fuels” (+2.3% after +0.9% last month).

On average over the last twelve months, the general price level increased by 1.9% after +2.0% last month, in line with the increase in the prices of food products (+4.0% as last month), alcoholic beverages, tobacco and narcotics (+3.5% as last month) as well as “Housing, water, gas, electricity and other fuels” (+1.2% after +1.0% last month).
