Note on the evolution of household final consumer prices in Yaoundé in July 2021

Food prices continue to rise

In July 2021 and compared to last month, the Household Final Consumer Price Index (CPI) grew slightly less than in June (+0.3% after +0.4%), mainly due to the increase in food prices (+1.0% after +1.1% the previous month).

Compared to the same period in 2020, consumer prices accelerated to 2.0%, after +1.6% last month and +1.8% in July 2020. This year-on-year trend is mainly due to the increase in the prices of food products (+4.8% after +3.6% the previous month), clothing and footwear (+3.0% after +3.3% the previous month), as well as those of furniture, household items and routine household maintenance (+2.1% after +1.9% the previous month).

On average over the last twelve months, the increase in prices (+1.6% as in the previous month) is mainly due to the increase in the prices of food products (+4.0% as in the previous month), clothing and footwear (+2.3% after +2.2% in the previous month), as well as “furniture, household articles and routine household maintenance” (+2.0% in the previous month).
