As a major player in the National Monitoring and Evaluation Committee for the Implementation of the National Development Strategy 2020-2030, the NSI must adjust its governance to meet the statistical needs of the NSD30.
The organization in Cameroon of the33rd edition of the Africa Cup of Nations and the precarious health context linked to the resurgence of the COVID-19 pandemic have not dampened the enthusiasm of the heads of the central and decentralized services of the INS. On the contrary, at 7:30 a.m. on January 20, the Director General of the INS gave his opening speech in an almost full room. He recalled the importance of this annual meeting and the expectations he has for the end of the work. Four presentations were made on the ownership of the SND30, the local statistics master plan, the national quality assurance framework and the innovations of the Circular.
Each of the themes developed gave rise to constructive exchanges that led to relevant recommendations. The participants hoped that new statistical operations would be launched to monitor the performance of sectoral strategies and ministerial programmes, for indicators from sample surveys. With regard to the Master Plan for Local Statistics, it is necessary to finalize the work of this important document begun in 2020 on the one hand, to establish by regulation the Regional Statistical Information System and to support the DTCs in the contextualization of statistical tools to support local development reporting, on the other hand.
In general, the INS officials have made a commitment to ensure continuous improvement in the quality of statistical products and to systematically integrate the quality approach into the production process in order to facilitate the Institute’s transition to the Special Data Dissemination Standard.
The staff allowed to exercise their retirement rights received gifts from the hands of the Director General of the INS, Joseph Tedou for the good and loyal services rendered during their professional career.
