The provinces were established as regions by Decree No. 2008\/376 of 12 November 2008 on the administrative organization of the Republic of Cameroon. The Centre Region has 10 departments and 70 districts, 70 district communes and one Urban Community (Yaound\u00e9). Yaound\u00e9 is the capital of the Centre Region and the capital of the Republic of Cameroon. The Central Region extends between 10th and 15th degrees east latitude and 3rd and 6th degrees north longitude. It was home to a population of 5,225,915 inhabitants in 2023, i.e. a density of 75.8 inhabitants\/km2.
