Evolution of household final consumer prices in Douala in October 2020

Soaring food prices

In October 2020 and compared to last month, the Household Final Consumer Price Index increased by 0.4% after +0.2% last month. This increase in prices is mainly due to the increase in food prices (+0.9% after +0.2% the previous month). The prices of alcoholic beverages, tobacco and narcotics (+0.6% after -0.1% last month) are rising faster than the increase in the general price level.

Compared to the same period in 2019, the general price level increased by 2.5% after +2.3% the previous month and +1.9% a year ago. This increase is mainly due to the increase in the prices of food products (+5.1% after +4.6% in September), and transport (+3.0% after +2.9% in September).
