DEMOGRAPHIC PROJECTIONS AND ESTIMATES OF PRIORITY TARGETS FOR DIFFERENT HEALTH PROGRAMMES AND INTERVENTIONS

[rank_math_breadcrumb]

Demographic projections are an essential tool for exploring, reflecting and anticipating the future, for everything related to investments, monitoring and evaluation of programmes in all sectors, including health, education, employment, housing, etc. They are relevant decision-making tools that make it possible to envisage programmes and actions aimed at accelerating developments deemed favourable or, on the contrary, influencing those deemed unfavourable.
For the specific case of health, which is the subject of this study, the planning and management of programmes in this area requires both qualitative and quantitative knowledge of the populations targeted by them. Indeed, the realism that should be reflected in the objectives and expected results depends largely on the extent of the problem faced by the target population of a programme. Approximate or inadequate knowledge of the latter may have an impact on the definition of actions and activities to be carried out as well as on the monitoring and evaluation of the results achieved or progress made.
