Evolution of household final consumer prices in Douala in December 2020

Slight deceleration in inflation in 2020

In December 2020 and compared to last month, the Household Final Consumer Price Index increased by 0.1% after -0.1% the previous month. This price increase is largely the result of the rebound in the prices of housing, water, gas, electricity and other fuels (+0.4% after -0.5% the previous month), clothing and footwear (+0.4% after stability last month) as well as food products (+0.1% after -0.3% the previous month).

Compared to the same period in 2019, the general price level increased by 1.8% after +2.1% the previous month and +2.0% a year ago. This increase is mainly due to the increase in the prices of food products (+3.3% after +4.0% last month), alcoholic beverages, tobacco and narcotics (+5.2% after +4.6% last month), and transport (+2.3% after +3.1% last month).
