Evolution of household final consumer prices in Yaoundé in May 2021

Food prices rise at the same pace as last month

In May 2021 and compared to last month, the Household Final Consumer Price Index (CPI) increased by 0.1% after being stable last month, driven in particular by the increase in the prices of food products (+0.2% as in the previous month) as well as those of clothing and footwear (+0.2% after -0.5% the previous month). On the other hand, the prices of goods and services of “housing, water, gas, electricity and other fuels” fell (-0.3%) after being stable last month.

Compared to the same period in 2020, the general price level increased by 1.4% after +1.2% last month. A year ago, the general price level had risen by 2.1%. The prices of food products decelerated over one year, (+3.1% after +3.8% the previous month) as well as those of household items and routine household maintenance, more moderately (+2.1% after +2.3% the previous month). Prices of clothing and footwear accelerated slightly (+2.8% after +2.7% the previous month).
