Cameroon has been implementing the 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) since January 1, 2016. These goals are set out in the new Global Agenda adopted by the United Nations General Assembly on 25 September 2015, with a time horizon of 2030. In adopting this New Agenda, world leaders were committed to achieving transformation for a better world, shared prosperity and ensuring that no one is left behind.
The 2030 Agenda is supported by seventeen (17) Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), one hundred and sixty-nine (169) targets and approximately two hundred and forty-four (230) indicators to monitor progress towards 2030 in the areas covered by the 17 SDGs, including poverty eradication, education, health, food and nutrition, the fight against inequalities, sustainable development. Cameroon has subscribed to these SDGs which are well aligned with its 2035 Development Vision (Vision 2035). As a key player in the implementation of this new agenda, the Cameroonian Government, under the coordination of the Ministry of Economy, Planning and Regional Development, has undertaken since 2015, the work of appropriation and contextualization of the SDGs. This work culminated in 2017 in the publication of the “National Document for the Contextualization and Prioritization of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) for Cameroon” and in June 2019 in the official presentation of the Report “Voluntary National Review of SDGs, Cameroon”. In the same vein, the National Institute of Statistics has led the work of developing the baseline (Baseline 2016) of SDG indicators in Cameroon.
