Note on inflation developments in the first half of 2020

On average over the last twelve months, the general price level has increased by 2.5%.
Compared to the 1st quarter, consumer prices rose in the 2nd quarter by 0.6%. At an average of 2.5% over the last twelve months, inflation has remained contained below the CEMAC standard of 3%. Spatially, inflationary pressures have increased in Maroua and Garoua. On the other hand, although still present, they have eased in Buea, Bamenda and Ebolowa. The rise in prices over the last twelve months was mainly fuelled by the rise in food products (3.2%) due in particular to the surge in the prices of fruit (+9.2%), vegetables (+7.4%), meat (+5.2%) as well as sugars, jams, honeys, chocolates and confectionery (+3.3%).
