Note on the evolution of household final consumer prices in Douala in June 2021

pricesIn June 2021 and compared to last month, the Household Final Consumer Price Index (CPI) rose at a faster pace than last month (+0.3% after +0.1% in May 2021), mainly due to higher food prices (+1.1% after +0.1% in May 2021). The prices of “restaurants and hotels” fell (-0.2% after +0.5% last month), as did those of miscellaneous goods and services (-0.2% after +0.1% last month). The increase in food prices is the result of the rebound in the prices of fruit (+8.2% after -0.8% the previous month), fish and seafood (+2.2% after -3.9% the previous month) as well as bread and cereals (+2.0% after -1.4% the previous month). The prices of oils and fats (+1.1% after -1.6% in the previous month), vegetables (+0.9% after +5.2% in the previous month), as well as those of sugar, jam, honey, chocolate and confectionery (+0.5% after +0.1% in the previous month) also increased. The fall in the prices of “milk, cheese and eggs” is accentuated (-2.3% after -1.7% the previous month). Meat prices fell (-0.4% after +1.2% the previous month).
