The study of the dynamics of the production system makes it possible to analyse the changes at work in the fabric of companies. This report deals with this subject, based on data from the two editions of the General Business Census, carried out in 2009 and 2016.
In Cameroon, the picture of companies in 2009 changed in 2016. The establishment of companies on the national territory, the physiognomy of the economic activities carried out, the size and the legal form of companies have been marked by a new structure. The share of the “Great West” in the business population has declined, to the benefit of those in the “Far North” and the East regions to a certain extent. In addition, the weight of the tertiary sector has remained almost the same (84%), while the secondary sector has increased its weight to 16% in 2016 compared to 13% in 2009. In addition, Very Small Enterprises (VSEs), which already characterized the economic fabric at the time, have become more densely populated (79%). Companies structured as natural persons have gained even more ground at the expense of corporate companies (SA, SARL).
