The Second General Census of Enterprises (RGE-2) carried out in 2016, gave an updated picture of the productive fabric and a complete basis for the conduct of business surveys in Cameroon. The first operation of its kind was carried out in 2009 and made it possible to set up a business register. Between these two censuses, several events marked the lives of the latter, including disappearances and other structural changes. These events have repercussions on the national economy. Hence the need to study the mortality of companies in Cameroon during this intercensal period.
The study focuses on RGE-1 companies carried out in 2009 that completed the Structure Questionnaire. of the RGE-1 carried out in 2009 which completed the Structure Questionnaire. It appears that of the 6458 companies at the start, 2316 ceased their activity during the intercensal period, almost all (about 95%) having ceased activity before 2014. The fundamental determinants of firm mortality are: the size of the firm, the degree of the manager (or main promoter) and the legal form of the firm.
