[rank_math_breadcrumb]

The National Nutrition Policy is part of Cameroon’s global development framework, defined in its long-term development vision and which considers the improvement of the nutritional status of the population as both a social development objective and an economic growth objective. Its aim is to ensure that the Cameroonian population, in particular the most vulnerable groups, has an optimal nutritional status that will enable them to enjoy the intellectual, physical and psycho-emotional capacities to lead an active, productive life and contribute to reducing morbidity and mortality rates among children, adolescents and women of childbearing age, adults and the elderly. Its main objectives are to:
– Contribute to the reduction of levels of undernutrition;
– Contribute to reducing morbidity and mortality from diet- and lifestyle-related noncommunicable diseases;
– Increase the production and consumption of healthy and nutritious food, including in the ecological areas most vulnerable to natural disasters (drought, flooding, etc.) in order to ensure sustainable food security for the Cameroonian population by 2030;
– Ensure a single, sustainable system for coordinating food and nutrition actions across sectors and at different levels;
– Ensure the integration of food and nutrition considerations into the various development plans and programmes, including the allocation of substantial resources at all levels.
The interventions are implemented in synergy with all the sectors concerned, namely health, education, water, hygiene and sanitation, agriculture and livestock, research, the promotion of women and the family, social affairs, and the private sector, with particular emphasis on community participation.
