[rank_math_breadcrumb]

Food prices fell by 0.2% after a 1.1% increase last month.
In April 2020 and compared to March 2020, the Household Final Consumer Price Index increased by 0.4%, mainly due to the increase in transport prices (+3.2% after +0.9% the previous month) as well as leisure and culture (+0.9% after stability last month). The prices of furniture, household goods and routine household maintenance (+0.1%) and those of miscellaneous goods and services (+0.1%) increased slightly. On the other hand, food prices rose by 1.1% last month and fell by 0.2%, in line with the decline in the prices of meat (-3.7% after +1.1% the previous month), milk, cheese and eggs (-3.7% after stability last month), vegetables (-1.4% after -0.5% the previous month), oils and fats (-0.8% after +1.7% the previous month), breads and cereals (-0.5% after +0.5% the previous month), as well as those of sugar, jam, honey, chocolate and confectionery (-0.3% after +0.7% last month). The decline in meat prices was mainly due to the fall in the prices of poultry (-10.8%) and pork (-5.2%). Vegetable prices are falling as a result of the decline in the prices of fresh fruit and root vegetables (fresh onion, fresh okra, fresh tomato, carrot, green bean, green cucumber), fresh leafy vegetables (“folon”, “okok”, “ndole lavé en boule”) and pulses and oilseeds (“cowpeas”, dry black beans, dry white beans, dried red beans).
